WASC Commission Support Manager
GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Commission Support Manager undertakes and oversees multiple projects related to the effective functioning of the WASC Commission. This includes facilitating the nomination process, preparing documents and schedules for its meetings, coordinating its standing committees, assisting with the development of policies and procedures, managing special projects, serving as liaison between the Commission and WASC staff in support of the evaluation process, and preparing letters and public disclosure of Commission actions regarding member institutions. Additionally, the position prepares trend data and analysis reports based on information in the Commission's database and other sources.
The position will take a leadership role in initiating, planning, and coordinating special projects for the Commission, such as expanding and improving new commissioner orientation, publishing reports to enrich the work of the Commission, and developing learning experiences for the commissioners.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate all projects related to the Commission:
Coordinate policy development projects for presentation to the WASC Commission and committeesServe as liaison to support Commission decision-making and public disclosures of action pertaining to member institutionsDetermine Commission review panels; assign chairs and readersDevelop materials and plan the program for new commissioner orientationOversee Commission committee assignments and rotations; develop committee agendas and reportsCoordinate institutional interaction with the CommissionManage commissioner nomination process and support the nominating committeeSet agenda for monthly Executive Committee meetings; take notes as neededCoordinate logistics related to Commission meetings in collaboration with other staffOrganize and plan agenda of annual CEO Forum at the annual Academic Resource Conference (ARC)Develop an annual plan with milestones, activities, and projects on behalf of the Commission; coordinate this plan with the overall WASC annual and three-year plans
Project Development
Assist in development of agenda and activities for the annual Commission RetreatMaintain and update Commission Policy and Operations Manual, with particular emphasis on Handbook revisionsDevelop Commission Annual Report and Fact BookAssist in development of Commission policies and proceduresUndertake research projects as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree required; master's or higher degree strongly preferred. Five years of experience in a position of significant responsibility, preferably in higher education. Excellent writing and editing ability as well as administrative, organizational and communication skills with ability to multi-task and handle periods of high demand are expected. Must be meticulous about detail. Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and with high-level personnel in higher education institutions is essential. Strong technology skills required (Microsoft Office Suite).
WORK REQUIREMENTS
The position is full-time exempt. The Commission Support Manager is expected to work Monday through Friday, seven and a half hours a day. Some travel to Commission meetings and Annual Meeting is required.
REPORTING AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the President and/or Executive Director, depending on the task. Works collaboratively with others on staff. Some clerical assistance available for tasks related to Commission meetings.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Excellent salary and benefits are offered including generous medical, dental, vision, retirement plan, and supplemental disability. No waiting periods for benefits except the minimums set by the providers. Fifteen days of vacation per year accrued monthly, plus normal holidays.
IDEAL TIMELINE
The position is currently open. An optimal target would be to fill the position in time to engage with planning for the June 2013 Commission meeting.
